Angelika Becker, a native of Germany, has been actively involved teaching German language and culture at the high school level in central Indiana. She received her undergraduate degree from Indiana University in Indianapolis (IUPUI) where she majored in German and Education and her master’s degree from UNL. She was a high school teacher at Carmel High School since 2008 where she also served as department chair for World Languages until her retirement for several years.

Prior to that, she taught three years at West Lafayette High School and eight years at Craig Middle School in Lawrence Township. During her undergraduate years at IUPUI she also taught at the Indianapolis German School, a community outreach program of the German Department at IUPUI for young children, for many years and most recently rejoined the “Samstagsschule” as an instructor and a member of the Advisory Board.

Angelika Becker retired from Carmel High School in 2025 where she taught German level I, III, V, AP, and IB German. She has been a regular workshop presenter for AATG (American Association of Teachers of German), a College Board consultant and an AP Reader, and a professional development consultant in Indiana. She continues to serve AATG, currently in her role as president of the association. AATG is the national organization representing German teachers at all levels and is the most important advocate for the profession in the U.S. In 2017, Becker was named the 2017 Outstanding German Educator by AATG, a highly prestigious award at the national level.

In 2020, Ms. Becker received the Indiana Foreign Language Teachers Association Mary Carr Distinguished World Language Service and Leadership Award. For the Indiana German Teachers Association, she served as vice president, president, past president, and treasurer.

Angelika and her colleague at CHS, together with their students, have been actively engaged in the Carmel Christkindlmarkt. Furthermore, she now also serves on the board of the Carmel Seiffen Sister City Committee.

She holds dual citizenship in Germany and the U.S. She met her husband, Ted Becker, when he was stationed in Germany serving in the U.S. military. They moved to the United States in the early 1990s.
