Who We Are
We are a traditional Saturday school that brings families together to learn German through culture, language, and hands-on experiences. Our program blends meaningful instruction with fun activities, events, and traditions that help children and adults connect, participate, and immerse themselves in the German-speaking world. Above all, we are a welcoming community where families learn, volunteer, and grow together.
Our History
The Samstagsschule program began at Indiana University’s World Languages Department and, under Professor Claudia Grossmann’s leadership, welcomed families for many decades. After closing during the COVID pandemic, the program reopened in Fall 2023 as the Indianapolis German Language School, now a nonprofit supported by IGHS. The school continues this tradition with a volunteer board, returning teachers, and classes for both children and adults.
Our Teachers
Our teachers are native or bilingual German speakers. Interested in applying? Click here!
